Those of you who is the member of Rich Girls Club Facebook page and reads this blog, knows that I am a big tennis fan. And although I love to play much more than to watch the matches, I do have my favorite tennis players. At the moment they are Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka.
I was following closely these athletes during Roland Garros thanks to amazing iPhone app. And even though there is still the final match left between Nadal and Djokovic on Sunday, today was a very happy day for every tennis fan – Maria Sharapova won the French Open 2012!
This win means a lot for Maria and her fans! Why is that, you may ask? Here are just a few reasons:
1 – She was strong enough to win one of the major tournaments after shoulder surgery that threatened her career and caused her to drop to the 126th place in the rankings.
2 – Roland Garros was the only trophy she needed to add to her all Grand Slam titles. Sharapova previously won at Wimbledon in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008.
3 – Maria Sharapova is now the 10th woman to win all four Grand Slam tournaments.
4 – She will also be back at No. 1 on Monday for the first time since June 2008.
5 – Maria Sharapova is only 25 years old!
Now I hope you understand why I am so happy and in love with Maria Sharapova. She is not only talented tennis player, but most importantly, she is a very strong rich girl! Maria found enough strength in her to not give up tennis after surgery, after losing so many times in a row. She continued training, believed in herself and now she is back! I admire and respect her a lot. Congratulations, Maria!
